Since November of 2013, I have bought two websites. I don’t seem to be the only one who has been buying websites recently though.
Last Summer, I saw that many other bloggers were buying blogs, so I started doing some research. Many successful bloggers have a large portfolio full of websites, and even though I knew it would be a lot of work, I wanted in.
I’m always looking to add income streams to my business, and buying more websites is something that has helped me increase my income.
Below are common questions that I have received about buying websites.
What kind of websites have I bought?
I won’t lie, the two websites that I bought were not the highest quality, but they were both within my budget. They were both less than $1,000, and I have already made my money back on them. I didn’t want to spend too much, since I really didn’t know what I was doing at the time.
Both of these websites are in the personal finance niche. I figured I should stick to what I know for now, and then maybe eventually get into travel websites as well. I won’t be sharing the names of the websites today, even though some of you probably already know. One day when I am ready to completely unveil them, I will. It will be a secret for now though 🙂

If you are interested in starting a blog, I created an easy-to-use tutorial that will help you start a blog of your own for cheap, starting at only $3.49 per month (this low price is through my link only) for blog hosting. In addition to the low pricing, you will receive a free blog domain (a $15 value) through my Bluehost link if you purchase at least 12 months of blog hosting. FYI, you want to be self-hosted if your website is used for freelancing purposes or if you want to make money blogging. This is essential as you will appear more professional and this will help you monetize your blog tremendously.

I am very frustrated with my blog but instead of trying to grow my readership to generate ad revenue I need to grow my blog to make it look attractive to a buyer. That could be a good business decision.
I wonder how much the sale price would be for some of the giant blogs like Mr. Money Mustache or Get Rich Slowly?
i had no idea this was a thing. very cool!
I never thought about buying a blog. I have thought about a lot of different businesses, and even some franchises, but never a blog.
I think that this is a great game to get into, Michelle, and you well do well with it!

I would love to start a blog as a side income. I’m trying to read up on your articles to get an idea of where to start. I just need to figure out what I want it to be centered around. Really helpful tips that I’ve found here though!
Welcome 🙂
There’s benefits to buying websites with tailored content already published in your niche.
1. The content is making you look more like a financial professional.
2. It adds to existing content already written and published by you on your blog here on Making Sense of Cents.
3. It adds value to your online real estate.
4. It helps boost your Google pagerank
5. It definitely & surely helps boost SEO and puts you one step ahead of competition in your niche of “financial bloggers.”
6. You automatically get increased backlinks when you add those websites to this domain name.
7. People will definitely give you more free advertising by seeing more published pages on your blog and share that content on Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, StumbleUpon, Flipboard, and elsewhere.
I haven’t looked into buying websites but I know it’s quite profitable. I heard of Flippa.com and I know there’s a few others. Perhaps someday in the next 5 years or so I might take a quick look into it and how it might profit me. Thank you Michelle for letting us know that buying websites is after all quite profitable. 🙂
