I have always been a big fan of Reddit’s Ask Me Anything threads, and then recently, I saw that Steve published an Ask Me Anything on his blog. I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to decide to do one of these. But, here it is, and I hope you think it’s going to be as fun as I do!

Ask Me Anything is literally that – you can ask me anything. If you’re struggling to figure out what to ask, here are a few of the topics you may want to know more about:

  • Personal finance
  • Blogging
  • My life
  • Travel
  • RVing
  • Being location independent
  • Business
  • Making extra money
  • How much candy I eat on a daily basis
  • My favorite TV show
  • Questions about my dogs

And so on, and so on.

Seriously, ask me anything in the comments below, and I will take the time to answer every single one. Of course, please nothing inappropriate or creepy. I’ll let you be the judge of what is creepy, I guess, haha!

All right, go for it, ask away!

P.S. If you’re looking to see all of the comments and questions, make sure to hit “Older Comments” or “Newer Comments” below. The comments break apart in pages once there are over 50 comments.

Do you plan to grow your family? If so, how will that affect your RV living? Is this blog what you see yourself doing in 10 years, or do you see it becoming a more casual thing and working on something else?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Eventually, we will probably have a family. Depends on when it happens but I see no problem with raising a family while RVing.

10 years from now is a crazy thought. I really don’t know where I see myself!

Hi! I admire your lifestyle so much, though I know my fortune won’t be made through my blog. We are a military family (2 dogs, 1 baby – probably no more kids) and about to move to Italy(!!). I only work from home part time, but this “hustle” is definitely not passive. Our retirement funds consist of my IRA (former 401K), to which we only contribute $50/month, and my husband’s Thrift Savings Plan, which gets a pretty solid portion of his paychecks.

Though it would be amazing to retire young, realistically I think this is beyond our reach. Finances confuse us both SO much! We know the basics of budgeting and have no debt. (Just sold our home for the move, which was our only “debt”.) But do you have any advice to give on how to best focus on saving for retirement? Like… should we play a more active role in hour our money is invested? Is there a VERY beginner-oriented resource to consult? Because I feel like most I find start jumping into options and terminology that make my head spin and I give up before I even start. I also feel like we have more in savings than we would need for emergencies, and I’m not sure what’s best to do with that since it’s not really “working” for us there. But again there are just so many options I don’t know where to start!

I think it’s because I’m a Libra. My head just spins with indecision and as a result we end up doing nothing. I just need s road map that spells out what to do. 🙂 (I totally understand you can’t answer that here.. but maybe you know of a good resource? ONE simple resource so I don’t fall down the internet and finance book rabbit hole yet again?!)

This is a hard question to answer in a single comment – but thank you for the question! I’ll have to turn this into a blog post.

For me, I like to invest as much as I can, and I invest a lot in Vanguard funds 🙂 Everyone is different though so I’d recommend reading some books on investing if you are indecisive.

      1. Katie

Haha I figured — felt good to vent out my issue anyway. I appreciate it, Michelle!

What’s one thing about your blogging/business journey you would have done different? Maybe something you learned the hard way or wish you’d known from the beginning. And thanks for sharing!

    1. Brooke

      I second it as well

    2. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

This is a tough question. The biggest mistake I made in the beginning was starting on Blogspot, that is for sure!

If you weren’t a financial planner and successful blogger, what other occupation or career do you think you might have been good at?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Haha, I don’t even know. I think I could be good at a lot of things (I’m quite competitive), but I’m most happy blogging.

  5. Dave @ Run The Money

    Hey Michelle,

Thanks for doing this. A few things I want to ask you are:

    1. At what point did things really start to “click” with your blog and you began to see full-time income coming in? How far into your blogging career were you?

    2. What topics do you find resonate most with your audience?

    3. If you were starting over today, what one or two places would you focus on getting traffic (or page views) and email subscribers?

Thanks so much for your time!

    1. Elizabeth

I definitely want to follow this thread!! Great questions!!

    2. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

      1) I started my blog 100% as a hobby so this is a tough question to answer. Took about 2 years from the start to when I left my day job to blog full-time.

      2) Posts about me.

      3) Pinterest and Facebook!

  6. Andrea

    Hi Michelle!
I have recently started following your blog and I really enjoy seeing all your insta pics of the places you travel/hike! I’m not going to lie, I’m a bit jealous 🙂
I work from home (which I LOVE) for a large company. My job is very boring but I get to be home so I feel the trade off is more than worth it. However, I would much rather have a job where I am home and loving my actual work. There are so many opportunities online to work from home but I feel as though starting something new and getting it off the ground would require me to quit or cut back on the job I have now and I know my spouse would not be on board with that. Any suggestions?
Also, which hike has been your favorite so far?

  7. Prayas chakma

which blog do you follow most for brainstorming?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I don’t follow any blog for brainstorming.

When did you realize that a lot of money coming in was your new normal? And what was it like when you first got GOOD money coming in?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I still don’t really think of it as a “new normal” – but I guess it was a few years ago when I realized that the sky is the limit for us! 🙂

      It was pretty amazing feeling.

  9. sayan

I admire you in every single way. You re the reason I started blogging. As a newbie am currently getting an appreciable amount of traffic. So my question to you is to what have you done to gain a significant amount of traffic when you were a newbie. your answer can help me a lot.
    THANKS
    Sayan

High quality content that is engaging 🙂

  10. Steve @ Think Save Retire

    These are super fun posts!

Do you have a sweet tooth? Or better stated, what’s your vice when it comes to food? If you were forced to literally eat yourself sick, what would you choose?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I have the biggest sweet tooth out of anyone I know. I eat candy and desserts multiple times a day and it’s actually a problem. :/

      1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

It’s so bad. I just told my husband this morning that I won’t be buying any sweets for the next 30 days (I doubt I’ll last that long – I probably won’t even last 12 hours). However, if someone gives it to me then I get to say yes. hahahaha!

Do you like to prank other people? Because I love pranking my friends and laugh till my tummy hurts.

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Haha, I like to prank people but I’m not very creative when it comes to that.

  12. Adriana

What are the steps you take ponce you hit the publish button, in order to give your new post visibility?

  13. Kellie

    Hi Michelle,

Besides financial topics/trends what do you think are some other really good topics/trends to blog about now?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Whatever a person is interested in 🙂

I like to read travel blogs.

  14. Kelly Cabler

    Hi Michelle,

    I have two questions:
    1. If you could rename your blog or if you could name it something different from the start, what would that be?
    2. How do you find affiliate marketing opportunities?

Thanks! I love reading your blog!
    Kelly

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

      1) I like it the way it is! 🙂

      2) I definitely recommend taking my course if you haven’t yet – makingsenseofaffiliatemarketing.com. I like to promote products that I already use.
