Hey everyone!

Big news.

We are having a baby!

We are super excited for this new adventure that we are on, and I can’t wait to share more.

I went back and forth on whether or not I wanted to share this directly on the blog, but many of you have been with me for years, and I haven’t really done a life update in a very long time.

I completely understand that a pregnancy announcement can lead to mixed feelings, and both good and bad judgment/advice/etc. Also, I do not plan on having things change around here on Making Sense of Cents, as personal finance is still what this website is all about.

Anyway, this is exciting news for us, as Baby Gardner is due in December 2021!

We are so excited to share that we will be starting our greatest adventure yet, and we can’t wait to show our new family member the world.

Pregnancy has been interesting so far, with lots of nausea (but I actually haven’t thrown up at all) for the past couple of months. Eating has been difficult, which feels crazy because I’m usually a huge eater and will eat anything. But, pregnancy has led to a lot of food aversions.

I am starting to feel better now, though, so I am hoping to get ahead in work, do as many fun things as I can, and prepare for the new family addition as best as we can.

I know that many of you are probably wondering (this is the number one question that I’ve received so far)- Our plan for right now is to live with our new family member on our boat. We plan on taking it slow but eventually doing a lot of travel with our new family member by boat, van, plane, etc.

Please leave a comment below:

  • If you have any books or blogs that you recommend I read about pregnancy, starting a family, work/life balance as a parent, traveling families, etc.
  • If you have any positive advice or kind words that you’d like to share
  • If you have any questions for me.

Thank you so much for following along on my journey over the years. Things are about to get even more interesting!

Have a great week!

So exciting! Congrats! Babies don’t need much space and are very portable so living in a boat/van/whatever you choose is definitely possible. Excited to watch you on this next adventure! <3

Congratulations!! I am pregnant as well and due in December 2021. My favorite books are Girlfriends’s Guide to Pregnancy and What to Expect when you are expecting.

What I learned is be kind to yourself. Your body is not going to feel and look as it used to be. That is ok. I also had to learn not to compare myself to pre-pregnancy version of me. Letting go of the comparison was freeing.

I am happy and excited for you!! 🙂

Congrats! There are so many December babies – it is crazy! The hospital we were actually originally wanting to go to is actually already completely full for December births and has been for quite some time. Along with all of the OBGYNS within a 4 hour radius, haha.

Thank you so much for sharing your advice! 🙂

Congratulations!! I am so happy for you!! You’ll soon be on a “kid boat.” YAY!

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

      Haha yes!

How wonderful for you both! Spend as much time on the boat as you can, when the baby starts to move around, you might not feel as comfortable having them on there until you can teach them safety! But what a great, fun alternative place to be; and you can tell him he spent his first months on your boat! Yes, I’m going out on a limb and betting it’s a boy, I felt exactly the way you describe with my first, a boy. Something about the hormones. With my girl, I felt just fine, food wise and all other ways! Wishing you all the best!

Thanks Kathy! Do you live on a boat?

The baby is a girl 🙂 Funny, everything is different for everyone. I was told that since I’m so sick, I was most likely having a girl. And the blood tests showed that it’s a girl.

Congratulations!! I’ve never been pregnant, but I do follow this account on instagram @peanut. They have an app, I think it’s sort of like a pregnancy tracking and social media for pregnant people! So exciting 🙂

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Yes, I’ve heard of their app. I’ll have to check it out.

    Congratulations! So happy for you.
Nausea is just your body’s way of keeping you from toxins till the baby’s vital organs are further developed. Hopefully it will pass soon. It will be a joyous (and tiring) holiday season. I had my daughter in December as well.

      Thank you!

I’m so happy for you, Michelle! Babies are so much fun 💞. If you struggle to sleep, grab a pregnancy pillow! It made a HUGE difference between my first and second pregnancy 😆. Wishing you all the best on your new adventures!

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Yes, I bought one right away when my nausea was at it’s worst. I don’t use it currently, but I’m sure I will again very soon haha.
