In October of 2017, I published my first Ask Me Anything here on Making Sense of Cents. That went super well, so I decided to make it more of a regular thing!
Ask Me Anything is literally that – you can ask me anything. If you’re struggling to figure out what to ask, here are a few of the topics you may want to know more about:
- Personal finance
- Blogging
- My life
- Travel
- RVing
- Being location independent
- Business
- Making extra money
- My favorite TV show
- Questions about my dogs
And so on, and so on.
Seriously, ask me anything in the comments below, and I will take the time to answer every single one. Of course, please nothing inappropriate or creepy. I’ll let you be the judge of what is creepy, I guess, haha!
All right, go for it, ask away!
P.S. If you’re looking to see all of the comments and questions, make sure to hit “Older Comments” or “Newer Comments” below. The comments break apart in pages once there are over 50 comments.

Hi Michelle – when starting a blog from the very beginning, is it better to have a few posts already there when going live, or should you go live with your very first post?
I don’t think it matters either way as you won’t have a huge readership in the very beginning.
Hi Michelle!
Can you recommend any resources on creating your OWN affiliating marketing program? I am planning to start an affiliate marketing program for my online store http://www.acre75.ca and have no idea where to begin!
Thanks so much!
Here’s a great resource – https://justinegrey.com/
Sorry for being late in seeing this but thank you for sharing my site Michelle. @Virgina – feel free to email me with questions anytime 🙂
Hi Michelle, I love the ask me anything idea! Your blog was one of the first ones I got hooked on before I finally started my own a few years back. My question is, how much savings did you have in the bank and how much were you bringing in each month at the point where you decided to go full-time with your blog? Thank you for all that you do and share.
Thanks Tami!
I think I was earning about $5,000 a month from my blog when I decided to go full-time. I had around 6 months in savings and increased it from there, I think.
Hi Michelle,
First of all, thank you for this opportunity. I love that you’re so open and willing to share your experiences and thoughts here on the blog and with your readers. 🙂
I’ve been building my PF blog, Mad Money Monster, quite nicely over the last 2.5 years and I’m currently making about 3k/mo between sponsored content, ads, and affiliate sales – thanks to your course, Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing!
I’d love to start scaling up my blog and making even more money. I’m currently stuck at 3k/mo. I’ve noticed a trend that, in order to exponentially scale up income, you need a course/product of some kind.
My blog is mostly about frugality, making extra money, optional early retirement, FI, etc.
My question is…is the blogging community too saturated with “How To Start & Make Money Blogging” courses for me to go down that route? I’m not sure it’s worth my time and energy to create such a course when there are so many others out there to choose from. If you agree with this, do you have any suggestions for general course topics based on my niche?
Thanks in advance for your insight and advice!
Lisa
Hello!
Yes, to make more money online, you’ll have to find ways to diversify your income sources and/or increase traffic. I recommend creating a course on what you are most excited about, tied in with what your readers want to see.
Hello Michelle,
Thanks for being so open like this. I want to know…
1. What is your blog publishing schedule?
2. How has it changed since you started?
3. Do you do challenges where you increase your publishing schedule
4. Do you shoot for a certain word count per post? If so, what is that?
Hello!
1) I publish all dates on my blog posts so it’s pretty easy to see, so I’m not sure if I’m reading your question wrong? I publish Monday, Wednesday, and every other Friday usually.
2) Yes.
3) No.
4) At least 2,000 is what I aim for.
Hey Mitchelle,
I just LOVE this blog. I love what you do.
You say that we need to be active on social media to drive traffic to our website. Which platform specifically do you recommend. For me Facebook gives me the largest traffic, but I know Twitter and LinkedIn would give me clients.
Thanks,
Mercy Mmbone.
It all just depends on your audience and niche. For me, I am active on Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
how many post do write to launch my blog?
do you practice law of attraction or another spiritual exercise?
Just start with a few and you’ll be fine.
No.
Hi. I’ve been so inspired by your blog posts. I would like to know the challenges you encountered when you started blogging and how you overcame those challenges because while i’m thrilled and excited by the potential of blogging, i’m distraught and scared of figuring out the financial aspect of blogging especially taxes and also getting new contents to post.
Thank you.
There are always challenges. You just need to either do your research or hire someone to help you in the areas that you are stuck 🙂
Hi Michelle,
I see you’ve created incredible success from a financial blog. I’m interested in spiritual talk and things of that nature. Can people create blogs on anything (they’re interested in) and gain just as much or close success? Would you suggest something more practical? Thanks for any advice!
Yes, I think so. If you’re passionate about something then others will see that passion in your writing and will enjoy it as well.
What can a blogger do to increase their domain authority?
I’ve never really spent any time on domain authority so I don’t know what impacts it. I’m assuming high quality backlinks?
Very basic blogging question:
I am still very new to blogging and learning everything. I would love to create a static homepage like the one you have. How do I build a page similar to your homepage with links to specific places?
Thanks!
I would recommend finding a designer or looking for a premade layout 🙂 I had a web designer create mine.
I am hiring Michelle’s designer to redo my page – she is professional and I think very reasonable!
She is great! 🙂
Thank you!
Hello Michelle
I would love to get the same monthly income you publish so
I started a few months ago my website, I have written articles, paid Facebook ads, linked Pinterest posts, and tweets.
I have promoted affiliate products and… nothing, zero sales
I don’t know what else to do
I really really need more income in my life.
any piece of advice for me?
Ed
Are you in my affiliate marketing course? http://www.makingsenseofaffiliatemarketing.com
How much do you and Wes think you need to be financially independent/retire in a style you’d be comfortable in?
We’re already there. I don’t share the number as I already share my income, so I keep my net worth private.
Hi Michelle,
I’d like to know how your relationship with money changed? What I mean is your money map. Where was it when you were struggling to make ends meet and what did you do to make the shift? I’ve been in the space to make lots of money, and have, but somehow I lost my mojo and can’t seem to get it back. What do you suggest?
I recently posted about my relationship with money and how it has changed 🙂

I have a question on taxes – did you have to get incorporated or LLC licensed for the blog? Did you do that at the beginning or after you reached a certain amount of income from it? Also, since you are traveling, where do you list your “home office” and get your mail? Thanks!
I am an LLC taxed as an Scorp for my business.
I did this almost in the very beginning.
We belong to a mail forwarding company, called My Dakota Address. All of our mail gets sent there, and then this company forwards our mail to wherever we are. I recommend reading https://fund-rise.live/2016/01/common-rv-questions.html%3C/a%3E for other common RV questions.
