In October of 2017, I published my first Ask Me Anything here on Making Sense of Cents. That went super well, so I decided to make it more of a regular thing!

Ask Me Anything is literally that – you can ask me anything. If you’re struggling to figure out what to ask, here are a few of the topics you may want to know more about:

  • Personal finance
  • Blogging
  • My life
  • Travel
  • RVing
  • Being location independent
  • Business
  • Making extra money
  • My favorite TV show
  • Questions about my dogs

And so on, and so on.

Seriously, ask me anything in the comments below, and I will take the time to answer every single one. Of course, please nothing inappropriate or creepy. I’ll let you be the judge of what is creepy, I guess, haha!

All right, go for it, ask away!

What was the turning point or “ah-ha” moment with your blog? I just started mine 6 months ago and am still trying to build an audience, make a profit etc.

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

It was definitely when I made my first $100! I recommend reading this for my “ah-ha” moment – https://fund-rise.live/2017/04/how-to-make-money-blogging-online.html%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E

    Hi Michelle,
I’m new to the blogging world. I’m just starting to put content on my blog. It’s a travel blog, and I just want to know how to put in content when I’m not traveling.

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I’m not sure if I understand your question. Can you clarify?

  3. Cherelyn

    Hi Michelle,

How are you doing? You’re living the life, and you’re such an inspiration!

Anyways, I have a question for you, aside from blogging, what side businesses that you do to supplement your income? Any online businesses that you can recommend for a newbie like me?

And do you have any morning or evening ritual? Thank you so much!

    All the best,
    Cherelyn

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I don’t side hustle anymore, as my business income is more than enough to provide. I recommend reading this – https://fund-rise.live/extra-income%3C/a%3E, for ideas of how to make extra income.

      1. Cherelyn

        I see. Thank you!

Do have any morning rituals or even rituals?

What’s the time of the day you write your blogs?

        1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

No rituals that I plan. I hike and am very active so I use those times to clear my head.

I write whenever – no schedule here 🙂 I’m pretty anti-schedule haha, which is due to me being a traveler.

    Hi Michelle!
My parents are looking into hitting the road full time in five years. My dad converted a bus into a beautiful home and they plan to live in it. The only thing holding them back is income. They aren’t bloggers or Vloggers, do you have any suggestions for how they could generate an income while on the road?
    Thanks!

    Hi Michelle.
Your blog posts are so consistent and with great quality too. How do you research/ come up with blog post ideas ? And, have you ever ran out of creative juices?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Thank you! I have a very long list of ideas, so I never run out. I come up with ideas from reading statistics, news articles (they get the creative ideas flowing), ideas from readers, etc.

How did you make changes in your beginning days to save $ and start investing? What did you forego to get your success?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

In the beginning days, it was all about finding ways to make extra money. That really changed my life!

  7. Katie Evans

Hi Michelle! I’m struggling to attract traffic to my blog. I know traffic isn’t everything, but I’d like to see more than 50 or so people I’m currently attracting every day. I’m working Pinterest, Facebook, and Twitter as hard as I can. What one thing would you tell a rather new blogger to do to attract more traffic quickly?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

You may want to try guest posting as well! 🙂

      1. Katie Evans

        Thank you!!

    Hi Michelle,

You blog inspired me to start my own and try to monetize it! My questions:

    – Do you support any kind of non-profit organizations?
    – I’m thinking of getting my degree in finance, what kind of job opportunities are there in this field?
    – Where is your favorite place that you have visited in your RV?
    – In your opinion what is the best side-hustle to turn into a career (besides blogging)?

Thanks for being open and engaging with your readers!

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

      1) Yes
      2) Lots – all depends on your specialty and what you’re interested in.
      3) We have loved visiting everywhere! National parks and state parks are probably my favorite areas.
      4) Blogging is the only one I have expertise in, so it’s the only one I can realistically have an opinion on 🙂

    Hey Michelle!

    1. How did you get free followers on all your social media platforms?

    2. How much did you usually pay per day on FB ads when advertising your blog?

    3. Did you advertise any particular blog article on FB or just the whole blog itself?

    4. Do you run paid ads for any other platform? If so, how much a day?

    5. When running FB ads, do you boost posts or use Ads Manager?

    6. When running FB ads, do you do video or story ads?

    7. When running FB ads, do you run them as engagement, conversion, traffic or..?

Thank you so much for doing this!!!

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

      1) Just being natural and having high quality content.
      2) I don’t advertise the blog, but my email list, I spend anywhere from $0 to $100 a day depending on the goal I have.
      3) Email list
      4) No
      5) Both
      6) No.
      7) Depends on the goal.

      1. Britney

Thanks Michelle! How do you advertise your email list?

        1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Numerous ways. The top way would be just through my blog, such as 1) having a sign up form on the home page, at the bottom of blog posts; 2) pop ups on Making Sense of Cents; 3) by promoting my freebie optins on social media.

    Hi Michelle,

Your interview with Jeff, opened my world to the possibilities of making money online.

    It’s exciting times.

I have just stared on Pinterest and I know you use it to drive traffic. What are your top 3 tips on driving traffic to your blog via Pinterest?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

      Hello!

      1) Have high quality Pinterest-worthy images.
      2) Post consistently on Pinterest.
      3) Remember to share other peoples’ pins as well.

  11. Mylene

    Hello Michelle,

First, I love your blog, it inspires me a lot and encourages me to go for what I want. I never thought living of blogging could be possible. So thank you a tone for everything.
So my question is: I am thinking of starting a blog where I share my journey of how I battled an anxiety disorder and depression, to help others who are living the same, but I don’t know where to start. I am confused about what my blogposts would look like or how to go beyond jus one post. Do you have any suggestions?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

      Hey Mylene!

I recommend thinking of around 5 main categories for your blog and then thinking of blog posts for each one.

  12. The Nurse Beauty

Hi Michelle! I love your blog. I just created my blog on yesterday! My questions are:

How do you feel about blogging and remaining anonymous? Is this a good idea and will it work?

Also I’m a beginner what should do I do next now that the blog is up???? Excited, nervous, so much emotion with starting a blog!

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I was anonymous in the beginning. It can be done, for sure.

Learn all about social media and create social media accounts 🙂

  13. Alaina Phillips

Hi Michelle! I joined your blog course after I had set up my domain already and needed more help. I love how you take interest in your followers! I have listened to you on some podcasts and the guys on Choose FI. I’m in the early stages of setting my blog up. I’m having trouble setting up my main page. I figured out it was my theme and I got another one with more options. Could you recommend some video tutorials to help me get over this initial hump? Thank you!

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I don’t know of any video tutorials. I learned through trial and error, but now I just have a designer.

  14. Megan Murphy

    Hello Michelle,
Congrats on the new boat! You’re going to have a blast!
My first question is, did you notice any marked difference in web traffic, readership, etc. with the overturn of net neutrality? I’ve been hesitant to start a blog as so many net neutrality proponents were talking about how it would hurt the “little guy” on the web. You’re far from being a “little guy” but thought perhaps you’d have some insight on how that’s affected you and your blog.
What do you do regarding veterinary care for your dogs while you travel? I understand emergency clinics are everywhere these days but what about routine visits? Do you plan ahead and take them back to their home vet or do you carry your vet records with you? I love traveling with my rescue dogs (thanks for being a rescue proponent, by the way!!) but I always worry about quality vet care in unfamiliar areas.
    Thanks for doing this!

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

      1) No difference that I’ve noticed. I don’t think it’s impacted my blog at all, not even a little bit.

      2) We just go to the vet 🙂 There are vets everywhere. We’ve never had a problem visiting a new vet.

  15. Heather LeGuilloux

Hi Michelle, thank you for answering questions through this forum – it’s such a great idea!

I am wondering if you are planning to publish a book (just to clarify, a real one that you can hold in your hands) in the future? I am seeing a lot of bloggers from all different niches moving in this direction once they attain a certain readership or popularity.

If you have considered sharing your knowledge in a real book, what do you think are the pros and cons going this route rather than sticking to eBooks and eCourses? Thank you for your time!

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I may publish a book – I’ve had plans to do so but life has just been in the way 🙂 I have had numerous publishers contact me but I just don’t have the time right now.
