I have always been a big fan of Reddit’s Ask Me Anything threads, and then recently, I saw that Steve published an Ask Me Anything on his blog. I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to decide to do one of these. But, here it is, and I hope you think it’s going to be as fun as I do!

Ask Me Anything is literally that – you can ask me anything. If you’re struggling to figure out what to ask, here are a few of the topics you may want to know more about:

  • Personal finance
  • Blogging
  • My life
  • Travel
  • RVing
  • Being location independent
  • Business
  • Making extra money
  • How much candy I eat on a daily basis
  • My favorite TV show
  • Questions about my dogs

And so on, and so on.

Seriously, ask me anything in the comments below, and I will take the time to answer every single one. Of course, please nothing inappropriate or creepy. I’ll let you be the judge of what is creepy, I guess, haha!

All right, go for it, ask away!

P.S. If you’re looking to see all of the comments and questions, make sure to hit “Older Comments” or “Newer Comments” below. The comments break apart in pages once there are over 50 comments.

Did you start your blog knowing the ins and outs of how to start or did you learn along the way?
Were you nervous to publish and promote your blog?
How do you feel about being an inspiration to others?
If someone is hesitant, like me, about finally promoting, what information would you share with them?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

      1) Nope, I started my blog as a hobby and didn’t even know that blogs could make money.

      2) Of course!

      3) Haha, it’s weird to think about that.

      4) You just gotta start!

Hi, thanks for this oppotunity, I live in Argentina and I started my blog in Spanish but I have nothing written yet, I wanted to know if your affiliate marketing course will help me to make money? no matter if my blog is in Spanish? or would you recommend the blog in English? What should my next step on the blog be?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Yes, there are many people from all over the world and blogging in different languages who are taking the course 🙂

Hi. I just created my blogging website and just added my goggle ads on the side bar. My question is how do i monetize my blog and get tons of real human traffic to my website for either less money or for free. And please can you explain how affiliate marketing works because i don’t have a full understanding of it.
    Thank you.

Affiliate marketing is when you try to earn money by placing an affiliate link on your website, social media account, etc. and have people purchase a product through your link.

An affiliate is a person or business who promotes a product or service offered by other businesses, and you become an affiliate when you promote an affiliate product.

An example would be Amazon book sales, where you link to a specific book on your website and try to get people to purchase the book through your affiliate link. Amazon and other companies want quality affiliates under their belt, because they want all the help they can get to promote the products and services they are selling.

If you get someone to sign up through your affiliate link, you are then rewarded by the company for promoting their product.

This is what is known as a conversion. A conversion is when a person completes a specific action designated by the affiliate program. It may be when someone enters their email address on a company’s website, when they make a purchase, fill out a form, or some other action through your affiliate link.

    Hi Michelle,

I enjoy your posts on traveling and RVing. My husband, dog and I are getting ready to retire and start RVing full time. We have been doing some RVing over the past several months but I remembered in a comment someone asked you about health insurance coverage and who you used and how you set up your home base. Can you repeat that information for me? Thanks so much for your help and all your articles that keep us envious of your life!

    Hello Michelle,

If your target audience was men 35-55, where/how would you go about promoting that? I know you’re a big proponent of Pinterest but statistically, that performs better for women. Any thoughts?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

30% to 40% of Pinterest users are male 🙂 And, it keeps growing.

I would still look into Pinterest, especially for a fitness website.

    1. For someone learning to manage money better, what main tips do you have?
    2. What ways do you save/scrimp and which ways do you splurge? (ie no beauty extras like manis, pedis, etc. but will do vacations, etc)
    3. How were you happy while saving and paying off debt as fiercely as you were? I feel like I have to stay trapped at home to not spend money.

  7. Alberto

What add ons do you use to track your monthly income, invoices, etc.?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

      I use Outright and Freshbooks.

    Here are my questions:

–Whats your favorite TV Show? 🙂
–will you bring your RV at Fincon?
–What percentage of your portfolio is invested in non retirement accounts?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

      1) Yes, we are bringing the RV to the Dallas area! 🙂

      2) My favorite TV shows are Last Man on Earth, LOST (that’s my absolute favorite), True Blood, and Boardwalk Empire 🙂

      3) It really depends on what your definition on “non-retirement” is – almost everything in the end for us is technically saved for retirement 🙂

    Hi Michelle,
This is such a cool idea! I’m putting it on my blogging to do list!
Onto my question: My husband and I are in the very beginning stages of building a house. We already have the land, so we don’t have to worry about any additional cost for that, but do you have any advice for ways to save money while building a house? We have a small list of “must haves”, but other than that we don’t even have a plan picked out yet. Any pointers?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I have never built a custom house – the house we used to own was move in ready. Sorry, not sure if this is an area that I’d be much help in.

  10. Catherine | My Work Money Life

I’m so glad you’ve posted this! As I’m sure you can imagine by now, I’m obsessed with personality types and am a firm believer that it shapes the way that we process information, communication styles and of course how we handle money. I’ve been dying to know, what’s your Myers Briggs Personality Type?

P.S. Can’t wait to meet you next week! 🙂

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Haha, I really don’t know what my personality type is. I’ve taken the test a long time ago but I can’t remember what my result was :/

Yes, if you see me, please say hello!

  11. David

I very much appreciated your blog post about your decision to join Liberty HealthShare. Have you had to use their services recently and if so, are you still happy with them. Any updates on pros vs. cons? Thank you!

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I haven’t had to use “insurance” since last year, and they covered it.

Yes, I’m still happy with them.

  12. Kimberly Clay

Hi Michelle! Thank you for the invite and the opportunity. I am struggling to get past a plateau with Pinterest traffic. I am not a Pinterest beginner, more intermediate, but I am far from an expert. My question is have you or do you “loop” your pins (the ones you create) on Pinterest. Of so, how exactly is it done? I have tried to understand it but I don’t. And my fear is that “my” pins are being shown (especially on group boards) much less often than they could be.

Any help you can offer? I’ve even started looking for someone fluent/very experienced in Pinterest strategies to do this for me. But no luck so far.

    Thanks.
    Kimberly

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

      Hey Kimberly!

Are you in my affiliate marketing course? I do the exact strategy that is talked about in the Pinterest bonus.

  13. Kristin FR

Hey Michelle! I love your blog and it’s so great that you’ve opened your comments section to questions. Mine is finance related, and I’ve been dying to ask about this, so thank you in advance!

Do you recommend that folks transfer funds from old employer sponsored 401k/403b’s to new employer sponsored accounts? In my case, my old retirement account is with Fidelity and even though I haven’t made any deposits since I left that job, my rate of return is higher than what I am currently getting at Vanguard (new employer retirement account). Would it make sense to transfer everything over to Vanguard? I am riding the RoR high now, but I am scared it can easily change. Thoughts?

    Again, thank you so much!!

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I really wish I could answer this question for you but this isn’t my specialty – so I’d hate to give bad advice.

I’m a big Vanguard fan, so I am biased too, haha.

  14. Pamela

    Hi Michelle!

I am a big fan of your work and lifestyle! I am curious if you ever noticed a bad energy or feelings from someone because of your sucess.
And have you ever tought of giving up (from college, blog or your financial purpose)?
    What kept you on track?
    Thank you!

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Thankfully, nothing too bad has happened. I have lost one family relationship over it but everyone else still treats me the exact same, haha.

      Never thought of giving up!

      1. Pamela

🙂 Love your spirit! Keep it up!

        1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

          Thank you!

Hi! I took your course a few months ago (best/most helpful part was the “web” diagram about how to post about a certain product) and I have successfully connected with a few affiliates that offer companies with my niche (Health & Fitness). My question(s) to you is, how often do you make a post with an affiliate link? How often do you post? Thanks for the guidance, you are a real inspiration!
    KP

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I really don’t publish too many affiliate links here on Making Sense of Cents. I maybe publish once a month with a stand-alone affiliate link.
