I have always been a big fan of Reddit’s Ask Me Anything threads, and then recently, I saw that Steve published an Ask Me Anything on his blog. I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to decide to do one of these. But, here it is, and I hope you think it’s going to be as fun as I do!

Ask Me Anything is literally that – you can ask me anything. If you’re struggling to figure out what to ask, here are a few of the topics you may want to know more about:

  • Personal finance
  • Blogging
  • My life
  • Travel
  • RVing
  • Being location independent
  • Business
  • Making extra money
  • How much candy I eat on a daily basis
  • My favorite TV show
  • Questions about my dogs

And so on, and so on.

Seriously, ask me anything in the comments below, and I will take the time to answer every single one. Of course, please nothing inappropriate or creepy. I’ll let you be the judge of what is creepy, I guess, haha!

All right, go for it, ask away!

P.S. If you’re looking to see all of the comments and questions, make sure to hit “Older Comments” or “Newer Comments” below. The comments break apart in pages once there are over 50 comments.

Hi there! Long time lurker here. What is the route of making side money that you found the most enjoyable?

Also, I wanted to start a blog, but I don’t think I was mentality equipped to setup the site. I have a domain and all, but there were some intricacies I wasn’t prepared for. How much should I charge someone to get the site set up for me so that I can keep adding content?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Blogging was definitely the most enjoyable side job I had. That’s why I turned it into my full-time job! 🙂

You really just need a design – I talk about how to find an affordable one here – http://fund-rise.live/2014/08/how-to-start-a-wordpress-blog-on-bluehost.html%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E

    Hi Michelle!

Ok I have 3 questions for you 😉

    – Do you know why your parents gave you the name “Michelle”?

    – Would you add another dog, a boxer, to your family?

    – Is there a part/country in the world you would like to visit/travel to?

    – What’s one of your favorite movie?

    – Do you speak any other language?

    – What’s one of your favorite dish?

Have a good day 🙂 thank you! 🙂

      1) Michelle by the Beatles 🙂

      2) I wish, but no. 2 dogs are enough for us right now.

      3) Everywhere!

      4) That is so tough! I love pretty much all Judd Apatow movies, plus many others 🙂

      5) No, but I wish I did!

      6) Anything Korean 🙂

Michelle, what’s your favorite vacation spot? And/or where has been your favorite spot to visit in your RV?

Love your work/site, thanks for inspiring us!

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I LOVE pretty much everywhere we’ve been. My favorite spot in the RV is definitely anywhere in the PNW, Utah, or Colorado, haha.

What are top 10 things you would recommend me to do to improve my blog?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Ha, that’s a lot to answer in a comment! I recommend reading the Featured Question here for tips on how to improve traffic, which can then help your blog overall: https://fund-rise.live/2016/02/january-online-income-report.html%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E

Do you ever plan on buying a house and “settling down”?
Do you plan on having kids and if so, how do you think that will impact your current RV lifestyle?

    That’s it 🙂

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

      1) We’ve already owned a house before. I’m sure we will do it again but for now we are happy traveling.

      2) Eventually probably. If we’re RVing at the time, I’m sure we’d just continue.

hi Michelle. Last summer I had to quit work after 26 yrs in health care to care full time for my mom with dementia. Believe me, full time is FULL TIME. I’m blogging when I can and doing some freelance writing, but some days it’s hard to get anything done because I’m constantly wrangling her. I kept track one day, and over a 3 hr period I actually got 20 min of writing done; the rest was spent toileting her, giving her medicine, getting her snacks, trying to explain who I am and where she is, etc etc. Anyway, a lot of work from home gigs you have to be online at certain times, which no way I can do. Do you have any suggestions for other things I could try to work in, to make a little more extra money? thanks.

What is the footage of your RV and did you buy it new? We are 83 and will be going out in Spring of 18. I have just started out with a blog bobplaceonline.com. thanks

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

We are about 38 feet long and around 12-14 feet wide with our slides out.

      Yes, we bought it new.

  9. Lauren Rabadi

I have the hardest time with my emails. How to make them interesting, clickable, converting – the whole deal. I tend to really fall flat there. Any advice?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Try to make them like you’re telling a friend something new, exciting, etc. Write like you would to a friend – it’s what I do!

Hi Michelle, I want to know about your dogs’ life on the road. We will eventually do this with our two small dogs, but I have questions. Do they enjoy long periods of riding down the road? Do they bark in new surroundings? What happens when you leave them in the RV for a while, just as you would at home, to go out to dinner or to shop or whatever?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Our dogs are pretty easy going with us. They’ll do anything as long as we are there. They do not bark in new surroundings (at least, not with us). They are pretty good.

I am interested in blogging. My question is the business side of it. Do you have a business license to blog and is it required. Your income from blogging how do you pay your taxes and how is your business set up.

    1. Memoona Mazhar

That’s a great question, I haven’t even thought about that! yes I would like to know this as well!!!

    2. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I can’t legally give legal advice but I can say that I have an LLC.

Here’s a good article on blogging and taxes – https://fund-rise.live/2016/02/blogging-and-taxes-what-you-need-to-know.html%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E

How did you decide on your “niche” to blog about. I want to start a blog but I want to blog about anything and everything, and from what I’ve been researching it says I need to know my “niche” to be successful at blogging? How true is that?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

No, you don’t need to be an expert in your niche. I just recommend enjoying what you’re writing about.

      1. Memoona Mazhar

Even if its about totally different topics? for example, being a momma and in school, food recipes, life hacks or fashion fall look? Can it all go in same blog as different posts or do I need to make each a separate blog domain?

        1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I think as long as you tie them all together some how so that it makes sense, then it would be fine. To me, all of the topics you just mentioned can easily be put into the same blog without any problem.

  13. Saranya Ramanathan

Hi Michelle, for a newbie food blogger which is the best platform for blog promotion in your opinion?

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

      Pinterest.

  14. Heidi

Thanks for letting us ask you questions. Since you are so successful, I’m guessing you have traffic to your blog mastered. It’s fun to see how much others have made but when I’m sitting here with a 2 year old blog and still getting 50 visitors a day, it can be frustrating.

I have purchased lots of courses and implemented them and seem to do all the right things that people are saying to do – get on pinterest, post to good group boards, provide great headlines and posts, have great opt ins and email campaign, etc. I post to twitter (11,000 followers) and facebook group (1200 likes) daily or more.

I’m just at my whits end on how to make this blog gain better traffic! ANY advice at all that you can give me would be GREATLY appreciated!

      1. Heidi Johnson

Thanks, I already read over that and am not seeing anything on there that I’m not already doing besides not writing sponsored posts.

Do you or anyone you know provide a service where they look over people’s blogs to help them see what they can improve to get better traffic?

        1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

I don’t provide this service but I’m sure there are many blog coaches out there that do this. You may want to contact someone in your niche who is successful who can possibly coach you on this.

Hi Michelle! Thanks for this cool opportunity to pick your brain! Over the last few years we’ve all been abke to follow your incredible journey…so my question is….What is still in your bucket list? What do you dream about doing that you haven’t done yet? The one thing that makes your heart beat a little bit faster when you think about it? Thank you for bringing us all along for the ride and inspiring us to be greater versions of ourselves. You rock, woman!

    1. Michelle Schroeder-Gardner

Ha, there are a lot of things I’d like to do! I’d like to backpack, go on a bike tour, climb as many mountains as I can, sail around the world, and more.
